1960 Dive to the deepest point, In the 1960s, the Trieste probe  dipped into the Mariana Trench, the deepest sinking point on the Earth"s surface, and succeeded, piloted Lieutenant Don Walsh. The ship and Trieste"s companion Jacques Piccard   accomplished an incredible voyage that took deep ocean exploration one step further.
