The most important female soul singer to appear was Aretha. Franklin was originally a gospel singer who began recording secular recordings in 1960, but her career was later revived by her recordings in the Atlantic. Her 1967 recordings include "I Never Loved a Man (The Way I Love You)", "Respect" (written and recorded by Otis Redding), and "Do Right Woman, Do Right Man" (written by Chips Moman. and Dan Penn) was a major production and commercial success.
