There’s another, more fundamental quandary. Games are active; films passive. In a film, you see what the director wants you to see. Games tell their stories differently. “With a film you are passively absorbing the story the filmmakers want to tell you. In games you are the story,” says Pratchett. “You’re an active participant in shaping how the story unfolds and you’re constantly engaging with the world, characters, and mechanics.”
