Is it necessary to collect stem cells from a baby"s umbilical cord? Many private hospitals and companies offer neonatal stem cell collection programs. As the child grows up, the stored cells are used to treat future diseases such as Alzheimer"s disease, diabetes, heart disease, paralysis are foreshadowing the future. Current studies have not been able to use umbilical cord cells to treat the disease. This is because the disease is studied only in embryonic stem cells and current knowledge can create individual embryos from any type of body cell and at any age. This method is called Cellular Reprogramming or the generation of iPS cells (Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells), which have the same properties as embryonic stem cells. which does not require cells from the umbilical cord anymore
