Patients with gout will suddenly have pain, swelling, redness, and heat around the joints all of a sudden. It usually starts from the joint at the base of the big toe. But it can also happen to other joints such as ankles, knees, and wrists, which will come and go in the early stages. The inflammation becomes more severe, causing the pain to become more frequent and prolonged, leading to chronic arthritis. and may result in other complications, such as kidney disease, urinary tract stones, and kidney failure.
